The city of Freiburg im Breisgau has a population of about 200,000. It is located in the south-west of Baden-Wuerttemberg and is the southernmost major city in Germany. The metre-gauge tram network has a system length of approx. 30 kilometres.
The trams as well as the city buses are operated by → VAG (Freiburger Verkehrs-AG)
. The municipal company also operates the Schauinslandbahn, a ropeway to the local mountain Schauinsland, but a special fare applies on the cable car.
